PMI Packaging: Thank you for having me. We’re thrilled to share that PMI Packaging has successfully achieved PAS9017 criteria as verified by Impact Solutions, a renowned test laboratory in UK for our straw products by using Polymateria’s advanced Resin+ solution. PAS 9017 is a British Standards Institute (BSI) standard that measures how well polyolefins biodegrade in the open terrestrial environment. This certification is a significant milestone for us as it validates the biodegradability and sustainability of our products, offering our customers an independently tested and environmentally friendly option.

Admin : That’s fantastic news! Can you explain how Polymateria’s Resin+ solution contributed to this result from Impact Solutions and what the process was like?

PMI Packaging: Certainly. Polymateria’s Resin+ solution is designed to integrate seamlessly into our existing base polymer. The process started with us incorporating Polymateria’s active masterbatch into our base polymer to create Resin+. We then submitted samples of the final product to Impact Solutions for rigorous testing. This step was crucial as Impact Solutions verified the product’s equivalency to PAS9017 standards. The successful testing adds a layer of trust and credibility to our product.

Admin : It sounds like a detailed process. Could you tell us more about the role converters play in ensuring the integrity of the approach during processing?

PMI Packaging: Absolutely. When we as converters process PAS9017-approved Resin+ into our straws, we are required to provide full disclosure of the formulation to Impact Solutions. This includes details of all additives used, such as slip agents, anti-block agents, inks, pigments, fillers, and any other components that might influence biodegradability. By providing these details, and through the rigorous testing process we can be assured that the biodegradation process will be effective with no microplastics or toxins.
